The weekend

This weekend we made a long trip. The kids, my parents, and I drove up to Bryan/College Station. Home of the Texas Aggies! When we went, it was a couple of hours til game time, so EVERY where we drove all you saw was MAROON!!! Tailgaters parked anywhere and everywhere. It was neat to see it. The last time I was up there was a while back. Sometime when I was in either middle school or high school. I bought the kids a shirt each, Gabe got a soccer ball, and I got me a jersey and a couple of T-shirts. It was funny, my dad and I looked like little kids in a candy store! lol....Of course my mom was the odd ball out. She's a Longhorn. Gabe and Angie say they are both. Aggies and Longhorns. They are still little, so I will let them make up their minds when they get old enough. Gabe now has both an Aggie shirt and a Longhorn shirt. The kids were hoping we were gonna go to the game, but we didn't have tickets so they were a lil disappointed. I told them we would try and go to the Nebraska game in Novemeber. Gotta start saving to buy the tickets.

On the way home, we got caught in a couple of thunderstorms. The first one was not as bad as the second. With both, it was dark, and pouring!! I was driving SLOW!!! There was lightning with both, but with the 2nd, it was striking on the side of us. SCARY!!! But we made it home safe and sound. There was about an hour delay in the Aggie-Louisianna Tech game because of the storms. And oh yea, the Aggies won!!! yea!!! Gig 'em!!!!

Old blog from 7/26/06-What does the future hold for me and my family?

Ok, so school is going great! It's going by so fast. I will be done with the classroom part in March of 07. Then I will begin my 600 hours of externship. I will be glad when I start actually taking the X-rays. Once all that is done, then I will get my certificate and 1 year temp license. I will have to take my state boards within that year to get my permanent license.

So, to all my friends and family, there will be a graduation, which will be in Sept of 07, and oh, you best believe, there will be a party to celebrate! =) Where EVERYONE (including kiddos) is invited!! =)

I have also been doing a lot of thinking lately. About my plans and my family's future. When I do my externship, I will have to quit working and won’t be making any money. It will suck, but I know I will have David to help me with that. Plus, I've been thinking about furthering my education. When I finish this program, I will still have 15 months left on my GI Bill, which I have till March of 2011 to use. So, I've been thinking, that when I am doing my externship, and my school is paid off, I may go to ACC or something and get my basics out of the way in case I decide to go for the full RT license and so I don’t lose my benefits. I haven’t decided yet and haven’t really discussed it with David yet to see what he thinks about it. It's just a thought.

Also, as you all know, I grew up here in Austin and have lived in several different cities and states. David is from Cali, Gabe was born in North Carolina, and Angie was born in Killeen. Well, I have been doing a lot of thinking, and know that I could probably make way more money in a bigger city than here in Austin. I've been considering moving out of state. Don't get me wrong, I love Austin and Texas, but I think that there are bigger and better things for me out there. I've seen it! I know my parents may not like the fact, but it’s just the way I am. I like adventure and trying new things and seeing new places. I've been considering a few places I would like to move to. Where I think I would make a good amount of money and be able to support my family.

The places I've been thinking about are Houston, North Carolina, Florida, or even Cali. Once I get my license and before I decide to move, I will have to check into the other states requirements for me to get licensed there.

Old blog from 5/06/06-Where did the time go?

Wow! I can't believe that my first module, like a semester, is already almost done! Seems like just yesterday I barley started. If you don't know, I am going to the Academy of Health Care Professions-Austin Campus. I am studying to become a LMRT. That’s Limited Medical Radiological Technician. It’s your basic X-Ray Technician.

I am really enjoying this course. It’s interesting and fun and something new to me. I love a challenge! So far I have been doing really well on my quizzes and tests (knocking on wood). I've been getting B's and C's on my quizzes, which count for only 10% my grade, and A's and B's on my tests, which count for 40% my grade. So I guess I can say that I am doing well.

I have class Mondays thru Thursdays from 6 pm to 9:50 pm every week for the next about 9 1/2 months. Each module is 30 class days long. The last day for this module is June 19th. I have my 1st final on Tuesday, the 30th. I am a bit nervous. Then Wednesday I have my last Test for this module. And my 2nd and last final for this module, will be on June 5th, then its PRACTICALS on June 14th and 15th.

Busy Busy Busy Bee am I! The kids get a kick out of mommy going to school. Always asking what I did in class. I believe anyone can achieve any goal they have. Whether it be going back to school, or bettering their life one way or another. You’re never too old to make changes to better yourself and the life of others. Everything I do and am doing, I do for my family.

Just wanted to share that with you all. I encourage everyone to pursue their dreams. I hope my kids will!
